ABSTRACT

Limbal squamous cell carcinoma is uncommon worldwide. Its early stages of presentation may look like the commoner limbal mass, pterygium or actinic keratosis. We report a case of invasive squamous cell carcinoma of limbusin a 45-year female patient. A high index of suspicion is required to prevent delay in the diagnosis of an invasive condition that can destroy the eye completely[1]. A rare case of squamous cell carcinoma of the conjunctiva is presented here. This highlights the significance of aggressive management of such cases surgically and the use of adjuants per operatively to prevent recurrence.

ABSTRACT

Stem-cells are primitive cells which are present in different parts of the body such as bones, umbilical cord, placenta, embryo, teeth etc. For years scientists all over the world have been working on possibilities of using these Stem-cells to regenerate human cells which are damaged due to illness, developmental defects and accidents. In fact, stem-cells can create replacement cells for those that are lost or damaged by injury or disease.

ABSTRACT

Administration of cadmium (Cd) significantly increased the peroxidation markers such as malondialdehyde and protein carbonyls along with significant decrease in antioxidant markers such as super oxide dismutase and reduced glutathione in liver and kidney tissues. Cadmium also caused a significant alteration in hepatic and renal functional markers in serum viz. total protein, albumin, alanine transaminase, blood urea nitrogen and creatinine. Prominent pathological changes observed in liver were severe vascular and sinusoidal congestion with diffuse degenerative changes and mononuclear infiltration into peripheral areas, while the kidney showed vascular and glomerular congestion, cloudy swelling of tubular epithelium. Co-administration of ethonolic extract of T. terrestris or vitamin E along with Cd significantly reversed the Cd induced changes along with significant reduction in Cd load.
